Sept. 11th-Oct. 12th
In the first month of school, we started with reviewing some commonly used phrases in Mandarin. I introduced our Mandarin story which students will act out by the end of term 1. I talked about iChineseReader and how to use it. We also started using our Mandarin textbook. Students had their first Mandarin dictation. For Math, we started with place value of large digit numbers. We also learned ordering comparing numbers, estimation, and rounding. For Health, we have been looking at the Canada food guide website. Students were asked to find out information about fruits and vegetables, water, protein, and whole grain food. For Language Arts, we have been practicing journal writing along with reading and reading comprehension. For Social Studies, we started our unit on the Canadian government.
Oct. 16th-19th
This week, we continued with lesson 1 in the Mandarin textbook. We started measurement in Math. For Language Arts, we worked on our haunted house assignment. We also did paragraph writing. For Social Studies, we continued with the government unit. On top of that, Grade 4 students also started FSA.
Oct. 23rd-27th
This week, we started lesson 2 in the Mandarin textbook. We continued with measurement in Math, learning specifically about converting units of m, cm, and mm. For health, we have been learning about different food groups, and we started a recipe project. For L.A., we are continuing with paragraph writing. For S.S., students took the quiz and we did a class activity of creating a political party.
Oct. 30th-Nov. 3rd
This week, we continued with lesson 2 for Mandarin. We also started reading the story "Where is My Dog". For Math, students created measurement questions and answered each other's questions. They also created a drawing of a classroom with specific measurements of everything that's inside. For Health, we did a practice session on how to make word documents and power point slides. We also did a lesson on sugary drinks. For Language Arts, most students finished their haunted house assignment in class.
Nov. 6th-17th
For the past two weeks, we worked on a Remembrance Day art and writing activity. We also started working on some grammar exercises. We made a small pamphlet for Social Studies about the three levels of government. For Mandarin, we read our story and did comprehension questions about the story. Students also received their new dictation words. For Math, we did some reviews on whole numbers including topics such as place value, estimating/rounding, and comparing numbers. For health, we did a few more lesson on sugary drinks, and students also presented their recipe project.
Nov. 20th-24th
This week, we practiced using different types of nouns in our writing along with more grammar exercises . We did our Social Studies retest and continued with the government unit. We practiced our Mandarin dictation words and did more writing practiced in the textbook. For Math, we started learning about estimating decimals. We also had our math test.
Jan. 8th-12th, 2024
This week, we worked on listening and reading comprehension including vocabularies. For Science, we started learning about the human body. Our current focus is the circulatory system. For Mandarin, we worked on asking questions and did talking circle as a whole class. For Math, we started working on multiplication.
Jan. 15th-19th, 2024
This week for Mandarin, we practiced our new dictation words. We also practiced our play (story) and students made some props for the play. For Math, we continued with multiplication specifically focusing on multiples of numbers with zeros. For Science, we continued with learning about the human heart. For Language Arts, we started a read aloud book called Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver.
